After a tragic hit-and-run accident, the police are appealing for information: It was on Sunday around 2:30 p.m. when a dark car hit a pedestrian on the B3 in the municipality of Luftenberg an der Donau (Perg district). The 86-year-old from St. Georgen an der Gusen wanted to cross the federal road not far from the Abwinden Danube power plant with her husband, who is the same age. There is a 70 km/h restriction there. Suddenly a car approached from the right – according to initial investigation results, it was probably an Audi A5 – and hit the pensioner, who was walking about a meter in front of her husband.
The force of the impact threw the woman to the opposite side of the street, where she remained lying in the area of the “Im Fall” intersection. Witnesses and neighbors rushed to help and tried to resuscitate the 86-year-old. But any help came too late for the woman; she died at the scene of the accident from her serious injuries. The Red Cross crisis intervention team looked after the husband of the deceased.
