After falling into a well on Saturday in Maissau (Hollabrunn district), a four-year-old has already been able to leave the hospital. The boy fell into a shaft around seven meters deep while playing with other children, the police said on Sunday upon request. A fire department member rappelled down to the four-year-old and saved him. The toddler was flown to the hospital; the injuries turned out to be minor.

According to the police, the fountain was no longer in use and therefore dry. According to the information, the children probably took down the cover and while running around, the four-year-old is said to have fallen through an opening around 30 centimeters in size. The helpers were alerted late in the afternoon. “As rescue via a ladder was not possible, the crane arm of the Ravelsbach swap loader was brought into position and a fire brigade member rappelled down to the injured child,” reported operations manager Klemens Kaltenbrunner. The boy was then pulled up in a sling and handed over to the emergency services.
Only minor injuries
The four-year-old only sustained minor injuries such as abrasions. The child was flown to a hospital by emergency medical helicopter for further examinations, the district command said in a release. In total, more than 50 members of three fire departments with ten vehicles were on duty.
The police started inquiries. Among other things, it should be checked whether the duty of supervision has been violated. A report on the incident will be sent to the public prosecutor’s office, the executive said.
