Plane disappeared from radar over Tyrol: search is underway

The police are currently assuming an accident.

The search for a small aircraft that has been missing in Tyrol since Saturday afternoon will continue on Monday. During the last contact with the pilot of the Cessna 172 northeast of Sölden (Imst district), the pilot reported a loss of altitude, which was confirmed by eyewitnesses. Hurricane-like storms made the search difficult over the weekend. Since the single-engine machine was not discovered in the Ötztal, the search area was expanded to include the Pitztal and the Sellraintal.

The pilot, the only occupant, took off from Rome; his flight was supposed to have taken him to Germany. Since the last radio contact shortly before 12 p.m. on Saturday, there has been no clue about the man’s whereabouts. The weather conditions continued to be poor for the search on Monday. Both the police and air traffic control assume an accident.
