A man set fire to his wife’s garden house in Vienna-Döbling on the evening of Easter Sunday after an argument. According to police spokesman Markus Dittrich and Gerald Schimpf, spokesman for the professional fire brigade, the 57-year-old may have spilled so much petrol that it caused a huge explosion. The roof was lifted off, allowing the energy to escape upwards, which ultimately prevented even greater damage.

Also wanted to set a fire in the apartment

The fire was started around 7:45 p.m. in the area around Heiligenstädter Strasse. While the professional fire brigade extinguished the flames using breathing apparatus and took security and control measures due to the extensive damage to the building, the 57-year-old may also have tried to set a fire in the apartment in the Wienerberg recreation area in Favoriten. He was no longer able to do this because he had previously announced the plan to his son by telephone. Before he could enter the apartment building, officers from the Van-der-Nüll-Gasse police station arrested him and banned him from entering or approaching him.
