As a child she wanted to be a zoo director. Today she is at home in the fashion world. “It’s similar,” says Marina Hoermanseder with a smile. The 37-year-old designer’s creations with Upper Austrian roots are worn by stars such as Heidi Klum, Lady Gaga and Rihanna.
The path into the fashion world was not immediately clear for Marina Hoermanseder. “I was certainly never the most diligent student and often had a poor behavior grade,” she remembers. But: She was always tough and had a mind of her own that she wanted to assert. She managed to do this after graduating from high school, when her desire to study fashion design was rejected by her father Wilhelm Hörmanseder, former CEO of the Mayr-Melnhof Group. A deal had to be made: She should first complete an economics degree at the WU Vienna. If she completes this successfully, he will clear the way for her wish. Said and done.
After completing her studies, Marina Hoermanseder went to Berlin to study fashion. She also completed an internship with star designer Alexander McQueen in London. “That was the toughest school,” she says, adding: “But only the tough get into the garden.”
