For the first time in two months, fewer than 2,000 new infections

Within 24 hours, 1,792 corona cases were added, reports the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Health. As usual, this is below the seven-day average of 2,747 infections on a Monday. There were 18 deaths for a total of 13,497 victims, and 279 Covid deaths were registered within one week. 1,761 Covid patients are still in hospitals.

In addition to the continued high bed occupancy and the number of victims, the spread of the omicron variant of the virus, which is classified as worrying due to the high infection rate, is a cause for concern. According to the Ö1 morning journal, 217 Omikron cases had been registered in Vienna alone by Sunday evening. According to information from the office of City Councilor for Health Peter Hacker (SPÖ), 198 people affected are actively infected.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 1,251,433 confirmed infections with SARS-CoV-2 in Austria. So far, 1,196,295 people have recovered, and 4,765 were considered healthy again within the past 24 hours. As of Monday, there were 41,641 active cases, 2,991 fewer than the previous day. The seven-day incidence fell to 215 cases per 100,000 population, from 237 on Sunday.

There are currently 1,761 people in the hospital, twelve fewer than the previous day. 478 people are still being cared for in intensive care units. This number has fallen by one person since Sunday and has fallen by 95 patients within a week.

33,998 Covid vaccinations were carried out on Sunday. Of these, 3,873 were first stitches, that is 11.4 percent. A total of 65,082 first vaccinations were carried out within the past seven days. With 22,344 third stitches on Sunday, 65.7 percent of all vaccinations carried out were so-called boosters. A total of 454,415 third stitches were administered over the past seven days.

According to the data in the e-vaccination pass, 6,550,456 people in Austria have received at least one vaccination so far. 6,217,907 people and thus 69.6 percent of the population have valid vaccination protection.
