The price of the lettuce reached $27 per kilogram, so since the Metropolitan Agri-Food Unit (UAM) They brought peace of mind to consumers by highlighting that a normalization of vegetable prices is expected within the next thirty days.

From UAM they assured that the increase in prices of lettuce It is due to adverse weather conditions, characterized by heavy rain and strong winds. This meant that quality products could not be harvested, which led to an increase in prices due to the low supply of the vegetable.

The commercial information manager of the UAM, Diego Romero, He assured Subrayado that in the coming days they will have a quality supply of lettuce. “In 30 or 40 days we are talking about having very good availability of lettuce,” he explained.

On the other hand, the representative of the UAM He recalled that the organization publishes the “Smart List” every week with fruits and vegetables that are in season and have affordable prices with a very good product quality. Romero explained that the fruits and vegetables that stand out are apple, pear, sweet potato, onion, eggplant and basil.

Stable inflation but with increases in fruits

The last data of inflation of the National Institute of Statistics (INE) established 4.71% annually in Uruguay, with its second consecutive decline and going through a period of stability, with nine consecutive months within the target range of between 3% and 6%.

However, one of the sectors with the most increases were fruit and nuts. With an increase of 8.26%, among the products that increased the most are bananas with an increase of 10.85%, lemons with 11.86%, oranges with 36.62% and peaches with an increase of 24.33%.

In addition, increases were recorded in some vegetables such as spinach (fresh and frozen) with 15.90% and carrots with 11.73%.
