Ski double world champion Katharina Liensberger has to pause after a positive test for the corona virus. The Vorarlbergerin is at least for the upcoming giant slalom on Tuesday in Courchevel, probably longer. “The goal has to be Lienz,” said Patrick Riml, who is responsible for high-performance sport in the ÖSV and who represents Christian Mitter in France. The ÖSV women’s racing director also tested positive for Covid-19 during the speed races in Val d’Isere.
Both sufferers have recently had no contact, are vaccinated and show mild symptoms. Liensberger tested positive last Friday, has been in quarantine since then and completed another test on (today) Monday. How quickly the Vorarlberg woman can reappear on the racing slopes depends on the result. Liensberger was indicated by the ÖSV as a Courchevel participant despite the test on Sunday evening.
There will be two giant slalom runs there on Tuesday and Wednesday. On 28/29 Another giant slalom and a slalom will follow in Lienz in East Tyrol before the turn of the year.
In the ÖSV ski women camp, they reacted to the events immediately and tested the team several times. In the hotel in Courchevel, the freshly arrived parts of the team and those who came from Val d’Isere were separated. How quickly Liensberger can start again after a negative test depends on several factors. The organizers also have a say.
In Courchevel, Franziska Gritsch, an ÖSV runner, is returning to the World Cup, who was unable to drive to the North America races because she did not have a corona vaccination. Everything she had to say on the matter, she had already published in her post, explained Gritsch in France. “Otherwise I’ll be happy to be back in the World Cup and to be able to deliver the best possible journey as a sportsperson,” said the Tyrolean.
