DISTRICT OF ROHRBACH. With the February uprising of the Social Democratic Schutzbund and the July Putsch by the Nazis, 1934 was a red-hot year. Franz Saxinger examines the regional connections to the February uprising in the current issue of the local history association, and he deals with the Nazi putsch and its effects on the region in the next issue. This time, the historical journey through the district begins at Rannariedl Castle in Neustift. First mentioned in 1268, it still proudly towers over the mouth of the Ranna and the Danube valley, as Franz Schlagitweit writes.
Another article is dedicated to the “Laussn Chapel” in Heinrichsberg, which has been renovated. The chapel was created as a result of a fateful murder during “Stöbeln”, as Ignaz Märzinger reports. Thomas Schwierz also proves in detail that a wayside shrine in Peilstein-Exenschlag is only a supposed Hussite stone. Felix Grubich also follows wedding customs and presents a poem about the “Heozatschauer”. The Dattermann von Klaffer, who was guarded by boys, demanded a donation of confessional pretzels from the virgins who came home from the Easter confession day.
Controversial pilgrimage
From 1849 onwards, the founding of the Maria Pötsch pilgrimage in the Altenfelden parish concerned ecclesiastical and secular authorities with the question of whether it was a work of self-interest rather than piety, as Hermann Rafetseder reports. Marion Schweighofer analyzed the images of the dead from Helfenberg. Like everything, these are subject to changing times. Raimund Holly knows who and what the “Slitergraber” from St. Johann was. The detailed and richly illustrated article by Monika Klepp and Norbert Kasberger about the parish church of St. Veit is, so to speak, a guide through this beautiful place of worship. New are also photo treasures from the topotheques about the construction of the Rannatal dam “Mausloch”, about the displaced persons memorial in St. Oswald and a collection of images of the dead from Rohrbach-Berg.
