Servus TV loses moderator and talk leader

“Links.Rechts.Mitte” presenter Christoph Kotanko will no longer work for the station in the future. The OÖN-Politik-Editor only started his work for Servus TV in February at the start of the talk format, which allows journalists from different political directions to discuss current topics on Sundays. Kotanko named personnel decisions and substantive decisions as reasons.

The implementation of the announcement to enable a demanding discussion of opinion makers of different worldviews has become increasingly difficult, said Kotanko. He pointed out this problem to the Servus TV director Ferdinand Wegscheider in mid-April. The station is in danger of practicing the imbalance that it accuses the “mainstream media” of, the moderator said.

Controversial satire

According to reports, the search for renowned guests was becoming increasingly difficult. For example, the weekly commentary “Der Wegscheider” by the artistic director, broadcast before the program “Links.Rechts.Mitte”, should generate a lot of explanatory effort. Last week, the Concordia press club at the KommAustria media authority took action against the satire format. The program does not comply with the principles of objectivity, diversity of opinion and journalistic diligence, especially with regard to the corona pandemic.

Gerhard Jelinek, however, is keeping a low profile on the reasons for his departure. “There is a wish that I stay with the station,” says the former ORF employee.
