Around 60 glass plates, carefully and vertically packed in wooden boxes, were pushed into Linz’s Mariendom cathedral yesterday and taken to the gallery by elevator. Two months ago the windows were removed and brought to Schlierbach for restoration. Since yesterday they have been used again in their original place. Today the “window puzzle” is being put together, then visitors to Linz’s Mariendom can once again take a look at the “Mariazeller” window – although the word “throw” is of course a little daring.

Places of pilgrimage and the emperor
The painting window shows, among other things, the pilgrimage church of Mariazell in Styria, the largest and most important pilgrimage church in the country. In front of it there was a host of pilgrims – among them Emperor Charles I and his wife Zita, who also visited Mariazell during their honeymoon. You can also see the pilgrimage churches of Maria Taferl and Sonntagberg – both in Lower Austria. A ship with pilgrims docks below Maria Taferl – they come from the diocese of Linz. This is an excerpt from the representation of the valuable and glass work of art.
