The Wels-based energy supplier eww is accelerating – but only when it comes to growth, while fossil fuels have largely made up for district heating production. “This winter, the share of gas in district heating was only three percent. That is historically low,” emphasized board member Florian Niedersüß at yesterday’s presentation of the new eww location concept.
With a total investment of 50 million euros, this does not just involve moving the eww headquarters to Linzer Straße 275. A new headquarters with office, production and storage space for more than 700 employees is to be built around the former FMT, now Christof Industries. In order to secure the expansion plans including a multi-story parking garage, the existing area, around 4.1 hectares, will be expanded by 1.7 hectares.
The former district heating plant on Durisolstrasse remains part of the existing building. It will be given a new direction as a network and technology center. “The Durisolstrasse is our heart for maximum security of supply,” emphasized eww Chief Technology Officer Wolfgang Nöstlinger.
The fleet management will also remain at the old location on Wiesenstrasse with a workshop and gas station. The vacant site will be used by the university of applied sciences in the future. Christof Industries, whose lease on Linzer Strasse is about to expire, will also be located on Wiesenstrasse. As before, customers will receive advice at Pfarrgasse 1. The old nave now belongs to the eww.
