The National Administration of State Electrical Power Plants and Transmissions (UTE) announced a new benefit for customers who were affected by floods and extreme weather events in Uruguay; for which he will invest a total of 5.7 million pesos.
This is a one-time discount of 1,642 basic rate units (UBT)equivalent to about 1,460 pesos, in the bills of clients affected by the floods in San José, Río Negro, Canelones and Florida. And it automatically reaches more than 3,900 families who were displaced from their homes and, upon their return, must recover and rebuild them.
In this regard, the president of UTE, Silvia Emaldi, reported that the new resolution complements the measures defined on March 22 and was resolved to support those who, after a flood, need to recondition their homes. In that sense, the one-time discount was designed in the higher electricity consumption consequent on the use, for example, of ventilation and drying equipment necessary to dehumidify environments and achieve safe return to homes.
The reduction of 1,642 UBT is also equivalent to 200 kilowatts per hour, the monthly average consumption per household, according to Emaldi.
The president of the public company also highlighted that, to make this measure effective, UTE will allocate 5,700,000 pesos. Finally, he highlighted the work of officials, who restored more than 116,000 services in a few days after the rainfall at the end of March.
What other benefits are there for people affected by floods?
Since March 22, UTE An additional benefit also applies, consisting of a discount 10% for each consecutive day of service interruption, for all energy concepts and up to a maximum of 100% based on the previous month’s bill. In addition, the bonus extends the expiration of invoices for 60 days.
But other companies and state agencies have also been implementing measures to support people affected by the floods. Such is the case, for example, of the National Administration of State Sanitary Works (OSE)which resolved to exempt families displaced from their homes from paying bills for drinking water and sanitation services, as well as postpone the due dates of bills from previous periods that arrived at the end of last month.
For his part, the Ministry of Development (Mides) authorized the application of a tripled load only time for those who were affected by the floods and have the Uruguay Social Card (TUS). Likewise, those who have Family Allowance Equity Plan but they did not have the card, they were given one with this triple charge.
The National Development Agency (ANDE) also joined the aid initiatives, in this case for affected micro, small and medium-sized businesses, through a line of credit with subsidized interest rateslower than those of the market and with longer grace periods.
Meanwhile he Republic Bank (BROU) also enabled a special line of social credits and for affected families, the amount of which will depend on the income of each family group and can be requested at any branch in the country.
