Three years ago, Vivo ventured into the European market – and immediately stirred the drum by sponsoring the European Football Championship. With Marko Arnautovic as a testimonial, the Chinese manufacturer is also represented as a sponsor at this year’s EURO.
With the campaign, Vivo wants to promote its own portfolio, which includes several current smartphones. For example, the mid-range cell phone V40, which is coming to Austria in April. Or the current flagship X100 Pro, which has been available in Austria for a few weeks. The OÖN editorial team took a closer look at the current top model.
- Design and processing: Simple design, display with camera hole – the front is simple and inconspicuous. If you turn the smartphone over, the camera module immediately catches your eye. This has a Zeiss logo, which indicates the renewed collaboration with the specialists from Germany. This protrudes far from the case and simply looks gigantic – almost as if Vivo wanted to make a statement with it.
- Camera: And the manufacturer follows up this statement with action. Because the camera is one of the X100 Pro’s big trump cards. The main camera, telephoto lens and wide-angle camera each have a resolution of 50 megapixels. A “T*” symbol represents Zeiss’ T* coating, which is intended to increase light transmission and reduce reflections. The results are quite impressive. The photos are clear and have good dynamics, but above all they are very bright. The camera is particularly impressive in poor lighting conditions and night photos.
- Display, performance and updates: The AMOLED display also makes a very good impression. It delivers rich colors, good contrast and very high brightness (1600 nits with peaks up to 300 nits). A Mediatek Dimensity 9300 is used as the chip. This works quickly and reliably. Even when playing demanding games, the processor doesn’t noticeably sweat. Android 14 is used as the operating system. There is a surprise in the software updates. While many other manufacturers now provide their top devices with updates for up to seven years, here you only get three Android updates and three years of security updates.
- Battery pack: The 5400 mAh battery impresses with its good endurance; one to two days are easily possible depending on usage.
- Price and conclusion: Not only in terms of price – the X100 Pro costs 1199 euros – Vivo has arrived in the top league. The Chinese manufacturer no longer has to hide from Apple, Google and Co when it comes to performance, but especially when it comes to the camera. Vivo should reconsider its update policy.
