A 47-year-old from the Freistadt district was driving a tractor with a forwarding trailer on the L1478 towards Sankt Oswald near Freistadt around 2:25 p.m. At the same time, a 79-year-old, also from the Freistadt district, was driving in the opposite direction.
For reasons that are still unclear, the driver crossed the middle of the road. The tractor driver tried to swerve to the right onto the shoulder of the road, but was unable to avoid the collision. The 79-year-old’s car hit a tire on the logging truck, causing the driver to be thrown out of the vehicle. The man – he was probably not wearing a seatbelt – remained lying next to a tree in a forest.
A retired nurse who happened to be passing by began resuscitation. The 47-year-old then called the rescue team. A little later, however, an emergency doctor was only able to determine that the man was dead. The Sankt Oswald and Lasberg fire departments carried out the clean-up work, and the L1478 was closed until 5 p.m.
