The previously announced relaxation for unvaccinated people on the holidays, which should also enable small get-togethers for all those without 2G proof, was also approved.
The corresponding 2nd amendment to the 6th COVID-19 Protective Measures Ordinance was approved in the main committee on Monday afternoon, the parliamentary correspondence reported that evening. The extension is necessary because, according to the law, exit restrictions may only be imposed for ten days at a time. For all those who cannot provide proof of 2G, these exit restrictions continue to apply up to and including New Year’s Eve with the known exceptions – for example for shopping for daily needs, professional activities (the 3G rule still applies here) or for example being outdoors mental or physical relaxation.
For the Christmas holidays and New Year’s Eve, the rules – as already announced by the federal government – have been relaxed somewhat. On December 24th, 25th and 26th as well as on December 31st, meetings of up to ten people from different households are possible even without 2G proof. These meetings of unvaccinated people are limited to ten people (children are included). For meetings of eleven to 25 people, it still applies that all people need valid 2G proof.
There is also a relaxation for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered on New Year’s Eve. Gastronomy, hotels, retail, etc. are also reserved for those who have been vaccinated and recovered on the exceptional days of Christmas and New Year’s Eve – the 2G and other Corona regulations remain in place. On December 31st, however, the currently applicable nationwide curfew at 11 p.m. will be lifted. Any more restrictive opening times (e.g. in the federal states) are possible.
Delivery of 200,000 Novavax cans expected
According to parliamentary correspondence in the committee, Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) said that both the three-week general lockdown and that of the last ten days for unvaccinated people had shown effects. Also with regard to the Corona variant Omikron continue to “boost, boost, boost”. In addition, the planned mandatory vaccination will lead to more people being vaccinated.
With regard to the exception rules for Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the minister asked for caution in the form of the well-known hygiene and distance rules. He also appealed to test before every meeting and to get the booster vaccination.
Mückstein also referred to the new nationwide COVID crisis coordination (Gecko), which was used to respond more quickly to the new Omikron virus variant. For the current approval of the Novavax vaccine, Mückstein expects the first delivery of 200,000 doses as early as January. An expansion of PCR test capacities needs a few months lead time, which is already being taken into account, he said.
