Former President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko was summoned for questioning on December 23 in the case of coal supplies from Donbass. This was announced on December 20 by his lawyer Ilya Novikov.
“Two hours ago, a delegation from the prosecutor’s office came to Petro Poroshenko’s house, asked the guard if the fifth president was at home (he’s at a conference in Warsaw, but they probably didn’t know it themselves), and put the text of the signed suspicion“ in the case of coal supplies from the DPR “and a summons for interrogation on December 23,” he wrote on his Facebook page.
According to the lawyer, the authorities are trying to divert public attention from the energy crisis in the country by the case against Poroshenko on the supply of coal from Donbass.
“They are trying to feed the society a story about bad and incorrect coal purchases under Poroshenko in 2014 [году] against the backdrop of empty coal warehouses in 2021, complete dependence on Russia for coal and electricity and a series of scandals with [президентом Украины Владимиром] Zelensky and his closest circle, “Novikov said.
The press service of the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine reported that Poroshenko was notified of suspicion of treason and assistance to the activities of terrorist organizations in the case of coal supplies from Donbass. The ex-president is suspected of helping the self-proclaimed Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, acting by prior conspiracy with a group of people, including representatives of Russia’s top leadership.
Earlier, on December 17, investigators of the State Bureau of Investigation of Ukraine could not summon Poroshenko for interrogation in the case of coal supplies from Donbass. It was clarified that in the process of presenting the summons, the former Ukrainian leader ignored the security officials and left. On the same day, information appeared that Poroshenko had left for a pre-planned diplomatic tour to Turkey and Poland.
Prior to that, on November 12, the head of the Security Service of Ukraine Ivan Bakanov said that the special service is checking the possible involvement of Poroshenko and the ex-head of the National Bank Valeria Gontareva in treason when purchasing coal from Donbass.
At the same time, the head of the political council of the Opposition Platform – For Life party, Viktor Medvedchuk, said that the case against him on the supply of coal from Donbass was fabricated by the Ukrainian authorities. On October 8, Poroshenko rejected statements by the country’s authorities about a possible collusion with Medvedchuk.
