The accident occurred on Saturday evening around 6:35 p.m. in Freistadt. A 61-year-old driver from the Freistadt district was driving her car on Nordkammstrasse from Böhmertor towards Linzer Strasse. When she wanted to turn onto Linzer Straße towards Freistadt Süd, she must have missed the 29-year-old from the Freistadt district, who was walking over a protective path.
The pedestrian was hit by the car and thrown to the ground. After initial care, she was taken to the Freistadt Clinic.
Approached on protective route – unfortunately not an isolated case
In March alone there were two incidents of this kind in Ebelsberg and Linz. One of them ended fatally:
On March 20th, an 83-year-old pensioner in Ebelsberg was overlooked by a truck driver on the protective route. According to the police, the man stopped right in front of the zebra crossing when the woman from Linz started walking. However, he probably didn’t see the woman crossing and drove off. The 83-year-old was knocked over and hit her head on the road. She died three days later in hospital from severe head injuries.

Just four days later In Linz, a 27-year-old woman was hit by a vehicle as she wanted to cross the intersection of Freistädter Strasse and Zerzerstrasse on a protective path. The driver simply left the young woman lying there and drove on.
