The fire had already broken out several days ago and was considered to have been brought under control – but now numerous emergency services had to be called in again, the responsible fire departments announced on Sunday.
Five helicopters were used to bring the fire under control in the extremely difficult terrain, said Styrian state fire brigade commander Reinhard Leichtfried in an interview with ORF on Sunday. In total, around 100 hectares of forest are likely to be affected.
