4 people were injured by burning frying fat in Sittersdorf (Völkermarkt district) on Sunday. A 40-year-old and his 16-year-old daughter suffered burns, the 35-year-old mother and her 18-year-old daughter were taken by rescue to the Klagenfurt Clinic with suspected smoke poisoning, the police said.

The 35-year-old had prepared French fries in a pan with oil in her kitchen, then went to the front yard to eat with her family. While eating, the family noticed heavy smoke coming from the kitchen. The 40-year-old ran into the kitchen, saw the burning pan, took it off the stove and wanted to pour the burning oil outside through the entrance door. However, he hit his 16-year-old daughter, who suffered burns to her thigh from the hot oil. She was flown to Klagenfurt Hospital in a rescue helicopter; the man suffered injuries to his hand.
