The economist and presidential candidate for the National Party (PN), Laura Raffoproposed “reducing personal and employer contributions” for salaries less than 30,000 pesos of gross salary in a search to promote young employment in the country.

The nationalist stated last Saturday at a press conference that, if she becomes President, she will promote the creation of 15,000 jobs for young people. He unemployment continues to increase among young Uruguayans and rose in January to 27.1% within the age group from 14 to 24 years, and to 10% in the 25 to 29 age group, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).

“We are going to create 15,000 jobs for young people and for people who did not finish the Basic Cycle in the first year of government,” he promised. Raffo before the press.

To do this, he explained that they will do so by “reducing the difference between what the worker receives in his pocket and what it costs the company to hire him.” The policy highlighted that, currently, for a worker to receive 1,000 pesos, the employer must put in about 1,430 pesos, and that “this difference operates as a barrier to hiring people.”

“We have done a study and those who are most affected (the difference) are young people and those who did not finish high school,” said the nationalist candidate. “For one year, we are going to completely exempt personal and employer contributions for salaries less than 30,000 pesos, and we encourage more young people to be hired,” she explained.

“Uruguay is a beacon of democracy”

On the other hand, Raffo indicated this Sunday that “Uruguay is a beacon of democracy in the region and respect for freedoms”, which is why it “supports” the communiqué of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRREE) about the sudden arrival of the Police Ecuador in the Mexico’s embassy in that country, despite criticism from Broad Front (FA) for considering it “lukewarm.”

“We always have to be attentive when these difficult situations happen, where there was an intervention on an embassy land, which does not correspond to the condemnation of those events,” he stressed.
