Untreated injuries, hoof diseases, an enclosure full of feces and manure. The animal protection association Pfotenhilfe describes alarming conditions on a horse farm in Sarleinsbach (Rohrbach district) in a press release. A horse owner became aware of the conditions and, after several reports, wanted to see for herself on site.
The currently 15 horses mainly get torn up bales of silage to eat, with parts of the plastic packaging lying in the feed. The dirty water from the dung heap would flow into the stream from which the horses would even drink. ““During an official inspection in January, the only requirements were to muck out daily, litter and slightly reduce the number of horses,” says the expert. For this purpose, a hoof inspection was prescribed with a three-month deadline.

According to Pfotenhilfe, the approximately 75-year-old owner is unable to remedy the desolate conditions. She has been sleeping in the garbage-filled hayloft of her farm for some time and is on her own. The animals’ “acute pain” urgently needs to be treated by a veterinarian; a farrier alone is not enough. In addition, several mares are heavily pregnant.
