China explained the forcing the United States of the situation around Ukraine

The United States is using the escalating situation in Ukraine to justify further enlargement of the North Atlantic Alliance (NATO). This was reported on December 19 by the Global Times.

The article notes that the alliance from the very beginning was hostile to the USSR, and then to Russia, because its main goal is to spread American hegemony.

Russia needs guarantees that NATO will not expand eastward, the authors of the article emphasize. So, in particular, Yang Jin, one of the experts interviewed, expressed the opinion that the Russian Federation takes this issue very seriously, since in the past the alliance has gone too far. Such a policy, he said, leaves no room for further compromises.

Another expert noted that NATO does not care at all about the security of Ukraine, since the alliance is focused only on containing the growing power of Russia. Whipping up tensions around Ukraine, the expert said, could provoke retaliatory measures from Russia. In these circumstances, the members of the alliance will need US assistance, which will allow the United States to take a leadership role in ensuring security.

“This is how Washington plays the game, but many small states do not understand it, or they have no choice but to be played and used,” the article says.

Earlier, on December 19, a delegation from the United States Congress visited Kiev to discuss the situation on the border with Russia. The delegation reaffirmed US support for tough measures in response to any Russian military invasion of the sovereign territory of Ukraine.

On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements between Russia and the United States and NATO on security guarantees. As follows from the documents, in particular, the alliance should refuse to conduct any military activity on the territory of Ukraine and other states of Eastern Europe, Transcaucasia and Central Asia. The United States has promised to respond to Russia’s proposals. According to a White House source, the US presidential administration found some of the proposals useful and others unacceptable.

Articles about the alleged possible Russian invasion have appeared in the Western media on several occasions. So, on November 19, The New York Times reported that the US administration had warned the allies about the alleged plans of the Russian Federation to attack the territory of Ukraine and called for new anti-Russian measures to be prepared.

As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said, the West is artificially stirring up hysteria with its statements. According to him, provocations are not ruled out, and the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance should stop “pumping up Ukraine with modern weapons.”
