A court filing released on Monday (local time) said the actor, who is accused of involuntary manslaughter and has denied responsibility, had “no control” over himself on set. “Mr. Baldwin frequently yelled and swore at himself, crew members or no one, for no particular reason,” wrote prosecutor Kari Morrissey.
“To watch Mr. Baldwin’s behavior on the set of ‘Rust’ is to witness a man who has absolutely no control over his own emotions and absolutely no concern for how his behavior affects those around him. ” Witnesses said that “it was precisely this behavior that contributed to security issues on the set.”
Morrissey wrote that Baldwin repeatedly contradicted himself in interviews and media appearances regarding the shooting. “Each time Mr. Baldwin spoke, a different version of events came out of his mouth, and his later statements contradicted his earlier statements.”
Debate about safety during filming
Baldwin was charged in January in the fatal shooting of camerawoman Halyna Hutchins while filming the low-budget Western “Rust” in October 2021. The 65-year-old has pleaded not guilty. If found guilty, he could face a prison sentence of up to 18 months.
The actor accidentally shot Hutchins with a revolver during a film rehearsal in October 2021. Director Joel Souza was seriously injured by the same bullet. The Colt had been loaded with a real bullet. The case shocked Hollywood and sparked a debate about safety when filming with weapons.
In the case, on-set gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed was also charged with involuntary manslaughter and found guilty last month. The sentence is expected to be determined next week.
