The now sixth bicycle blessing in Mauthausen last Sunday was not only the best attended with 200 cyclists, but also the warmest so far at almost 30 degrees. The mass service in the parish church with the musical performance by the gospel choir got the congregation in the mood. Afterwards, the cycling crowd gathered at Heindlkai to receive pastor Thomas Pree’s blessing for a safe and accident-free cycling season.
Star guests were 13-year-old street trial athlete Jonathan Preslmair, who demonstrated his impressive skills. Also there: the currently best U9 mountain biker in Austria, Heidi Schwarz. As a visible sign, each bicycle received a ribbon of blessing. The tourism association rewarded the newly blessed with a freshly tapped beer and the children with an ice cream voucher.
During the event there was the opportunity for a free bike check by Motozone’s cycling professionals. “The bicycle blessing is known far beyond the borders of Mauthausen,” says “FahrRad” team spokeswoman Anita Peterseil. “It’s not just our neighbors from Ried in der Riedmark, Schwertberg and St. Georgen who have had their bikes blessed here. Cyclists even from Waldhausen, Bad Kreuzen or Neumarkt im Mühlkreis have come to collect the blessing and then enjoy the dream weather in the guest gardens to enjoy our beautiful community.”
