The German Interior Minister announced on Tuesday that she wants to speed up the expulsions of foreign criminals, after statistics showed that crime by outsiders has increased.
“Violence is never justified. In this area, my motto is clear: zero tolerance,” declared the social democrat Nancy Faeseduring the presentation of police crime statistics in 2023.
This means “consistent police intervention” and “swift procedures, tangible convictions and penalties”he added.
Foreigners who commit crimes should leave Germany “Much faster than now,” he said.although he stressed the importance of prevention measures.
That people from other countries are “in principle, more criminal […] It is not true,” said the head of the German judicial police (BKA), Holger Münch, who called for better integration of migrants.
Germany: deportations increase
Last year, the number of crimes reported (5.94 million) was 5.5% higher than in 2022 and reached its highest level since 2016, according to the report.
The proportion of foreign suspects increased by 17.8% (about 923,000), and that of Germans by 1% (1.32 million).
According to experts, the increase is partly explained by high immigration rates and the lifting of anti-Covid restrictions.
