The masked perpetrators threatened an employee with a knife. They initially fled with the stolen cash. The Styrian police reported on Tuesday that the leads led to two Czechs who had rented a hotel near Graz main train station. One of the suspects confessed to the crime, the other remained silent until now. Both were arrested.
Employee threatened with knife
At around 4:20 p.m., two men wearing caps and sunglasses stormed the tobacconist’s shop on Josefigasse. There was only one 54-year-old employee there. The perpetrators held a knife in her direction and demanded cash. Since the saleswoman refused, one of the perpetrators took the key to the cash drawer and opened it. The robbers took “some cash” and fled on foot, police said. The employee suffered shock and was uninjured.
Stayed in a hotel
The investigators collected clues in bars, a brothel and from taxi drivers and located the two young Czech citizens in a hotel on Tuesday night. According to a police statement, the alleged murder knife, cash in the desired denomination and items of clothing that had already been purchased were also there. The two probably arrived by train days before the crime. The 21-year-olds have relevant criminal records in the Czech Republic. They were taken to the Graz-Jakomini prison.
