The vocal ensemble “Wohlsang” from Linz and the Anton Bruckner Bläser Consort perform works whose sacred content combines the connection between faith and music. It is not for nothing that Bruckner was called God’s musician. The concert for Bruckner’s anniversary year with the title “Not from this world” can be heard on Sunday, April 14th, at 6 p.m. in the Mattighofen Abbey Parish Church.
To mark Anton Bruckner’s 200th birthday, his Mass in E minor for choir and wind instruments will be performed. An eight-part a capella mass for choir by Frank Martin in conjunction with wind sections by Giovanni Gabrieli is also part of the program. The leader of the vocal ensemble “Wohlsang” is Georg Leopold. As a former choir director of the Linz Music Theater and as a teacher at the Anton Bruckner Private University, he understands his conducting craft very well. 30 singers from Upper Austria and Vienna meet weekly in Linz for rehearsals to work on the subtleties of the music, the balance of the choir’s sound and the splendor of the performance.
The Anton Bruckner Bläser Consort is led by Hubert Gurtner. In the original line-up of 15 wind instruments from Bruckner’s E minor Mass, the ensemble plays with splendor, harmony, virtuosity and sensitivity. Professors from the University of Music, students, orchestra musicians and teachers from the State Music School are the ensemble members. Tickets are available at the box office.
