This year, the Hirschbach Beautification Association received active support from twelve asylum seekers who live in Guttenbrunn during the “Hui instead of ugh” campaign that they organized. “The men volunteered with joy and enthusiasm,” says the chairman of the beautification association, Johann Mayr.
Mayr established contact with the asylum seekers during a personal visit to the asylum accommodation in Guttenbrunn: “I was overwhelmed by the warmth and hospitality that I was able to experience there. They expressed their joy at finally being able to do something meaningful with coffee and cookies.” He was just as happy that the announcement of help with the hallway cleaning was not enough: the commitment on the collection day itself was exemplary, said Mayr. During the corridor cleaning, which also took place in the best spring weather, the asylum seekers involved collected rubbish that had been left lying around, especially along the main road in the Hirschbach area and from the B38 intersection to the town center.
Asylum seekers are allowed to support communities and associations in charitable activities, but can also help out in private households. The documentation and application for this can be processed using the service check. Further information is available from Volkshilfe Freistadt, among others.
