ROHRBACH district. “Large, cross-community projects with area coverage are preferred,” is the motto when it comes to broadband funding. Eligible areas are areas in Austria in which only low download rates from the Internet via landline connections can be achieved. These undoubtedly include large parts of the Rohrbach district. Providers are supported by various public subsidies to build a high quality internet infrastructure in order to be able to meet the requirements of a sustainable living and working space.
These criteria are changing and for the seventh round of funding for broadband expansion. The following criteria are likely to apply: The focus on area coverage is new, which means that large, cross-community projects are preferred and have a greater chance of receiving funding commitments.
The common path was the right one
Leader-Obmann Georg Ecker: “Advocating a concerted approach by the communities was and is the only correct way. Especially with the newly added focus on large, cross-community projects in granting funds, we have our finger on the pulse of the times. ”Households with a download rate of up to 100 Mbit are also eligible (up to now this was only possible below 30 Mbit). This means that in the next funding call, the number of building points that can be funded will increase accordingly.
In Austria, 959 million euros in funding for broadband expansion have been awarded in recent years, of which 355 million have already gone to Upper Austria. Most recently, the municipal associations Hansbergland, Steinerne Mühl and large areas in Herzogsdorf and St. Martin received subsidies from the increase in the budget for the previous funding call “Access 6”. Another important aspect of the broadband expansion is the merger of Fiber Service Upper Austria and Energie AG. The goal of Fiber Service Oberösterreich is the rapid expansion of the fiber optic infrastructure in unsupervised areas in which commercial operators are not expanding. Fiber Service Upper Austria therefore acts in addition to the profit-oriented providers on the market. “This merger now enables, for example, a nationwide submission as a regional overall project, which in turn supports the focus on cross-community projects,” says Georg Ecker.
