More and more young women are setting the tone in music clubs. The latest example is Julia Bonelli from Grieskirchen, who is the new bandmaster of the Grieskirchen town band. The 27-year-old officially replaced Philipp Buttinger, who was at the head of the wind orchestra for almost 15 years, at the spring concert on Saturday. “I’m happy about this great task and that the musicians have placed so much trust in me,” says Julia Bonelli in an interview with OÖN. However, she had to think a bit about taking on this role. “The crux of the matter was that playing is so important to me and I won’t be able to do it as much in the future,” says the musician, who plays the transverse flute and piccolo flute and also performed as a singer with the city band.
Bonelli was born with music. She comes from a well-known musical family from Grieskirchen. Her mother was a flute teacher and her father was a singing teacher. Her older sister Karin is a member of the Vienna Philharmonic. The flautist could also be seen at the traditional New Year’s concert.
Julia Bonelli also thought about making music her career for a long time. “But then I decided against it because I wanted to continue music as a passionate hobby to balance out my professional life.” She was drawn to the teaching profession; she has been a teacher at the elementary school in Offenhausen for four years and is currently teaching first grade. There, too, she experienced the children’s enthusiasm for music and singing as a balance to the subjects they were studying.
She has been a member of the city band for almost 15 years, and in 2019, after four years of training, she became deputy bandmaster of the orchestra with around 50 musicians. She is now approaching her new task with great enthusiasm. “I want to try new things that we haven’t done before and I want everyone to feel comfortable at the club.”
She would like to see even more young talent for the city band, which has the best conditions for music rehearsals in the “Haus der Musik” in the district town. “There are a lot of clubs in Grieskirchen, so it’s not always easy to attract young people, but in general we always do well.”
