Allen Weisselbergformer financial director of the Trump Organization who already served prison time for tax fraud, He was sentenced again this Wednesday by a Manhattan court to five months in prison for lying in the context of a civil trial against Donald Trump.
Weisselberg, 76, was chief financial officer of former President Trump’s real estate and entertainment group from 2005 to 2021.
He pleaded guilty to two counts of perjury during his interrogation in 2020in the investigation phase of the fraud trial.
His sentence is known when there is less than a week until Trump is tried for covering up payments to buy the silence of a former porn actress in order to hide a sexual scandal during the 2016 election campaign.
In exchange for admitting guilt related to two counts of perjury committed during a deposition about the value of Trump’s New York penthouse, Weisselberg agreed with prosecutors to be sentenced to a lesser sentence of five months in prison.
The crimes for which he was accused carry prison sentences of up to seven years.according to the plea document.
Prosecutors also agreed not to pursue further charges against Weisselberg related to his time at the Trump Organization.
On February 16, Trump was sentenced to pay a fine of 355 million dollars -much more so if interest is included- after being found responsible for fraudulently manipulating the value of his properties to obtain favorable conditions on loans and insurance.
Trump, a prominent real estate developer and businessman in New York before entering politics, could have to sell or mortgage properties to deposit guarantees with which to cover the devastating sanction if his current appeal against the sentence fails.
