After the Linz Marathon there is the traditional market run in the monastery: the Kremsmünster TuS Athletics & FitSport section is organizing this for the 29th time on Sunday, April 14th, from 2 p.m. The flat ten-kilometer route – four laps in the town center – is popular not only because it is one of the fastest in Austria, but also because of a unique feature: the daily winners for women and men in the main run are awarded fine wines from the monastery winery Kremsmünster outweighed. Since rather corpulent runners are rarely the fastest, cellar master Father Siegfried will probably have a few bottles left over for guests of the monastery after the award ceremony.
For top athletes and beginners
At the Neveon market run, not only top athletes but also beginners get their money’s worth. The so-called “pleasure run” covers a distance of five kilometers. The young runners from U6 to U16 can compete from 11 a.m. on distances ranging from 200 meters to 1.8 kilometers. The fun relay race, in which teams of three complete a 700-meter lap around the market square, is also popular with clubs and companies. From 12.30 p.m., the roller sports association is also organizing an inline speed skating competition over eleven kilometers. And the local champions will also be crowned in the 10-kilometer main run.
Part of the Traunviertler Running Cup
The Kremsmünster market run has also been part of the Traunviertler Running Cup since 2012. This series of events includes six fun runs in the central area: The Traunuferlauf in Lambach took place on March 9th. The Kremsmünster market run is followed by the Innbachtal run in Pichl near Wels on April 27th, the Vorchdorf Whitsun run on May 18th, the market run in Haag am Hausruck on August 3rd and the Kirtag run in Adlwang on October 5th. The five best results count for the cup ranking; at least four races must be completed. Last year, Michael Höller from TuS Kremsmünster won the overall ranking for the first time.
