Obajtek had to leave at the beginning of the year after the change of government in Poland; he was considered a political pupil of Jaroslaw Kaczynski, who, as head of the national-conservative former ruling party PiS, had a lot of influence in Poland until 2023. The Polish state holds 49.9 percent of Orlen.
Fafara led Orlen’s Lithuanian subsidiary from 2010 to 2018. Most recently, he worked as chairman of the medical company 4Cell Therapies. According to the Reuters news agency, almost 300 candidates applied for the position of CEO.
