If the West crosses the red lines indicated by Moscow, it is fraught with a repetition of the Cuban missile crisis, journalist Dmitry Kiselev said.
According to Kiselev, if Ukraine joins NATO or the North Atlantic Alliance creates a military infrastructure on the territory of this country, Russia will prepare countermeasures.
“Russia has the best weapon in the world – hypersonic. It will reach America as quickly as American or British weapons can reach Moscow from Ukraine. This will be the situation of the Cuban missile crisis, but with a different flight time, “- said the TV presenter in an interview with the BBC, published on December 20.
According to the journalist, the aggravation of the situation is not in Russia’s interests. Any escalation of the conflict “will be the choice of the West,” he added.
Earlier on Monday, State Department spokesman Ned Price said the US, along with European allies and partners, intends to present its concerns about Russia’s actions.
On December 17, the Russian Foreign Ministry published draft agreements with the United States and NATO on European security guarantees. These are the proposals of the Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov conveyed to the US Deputy Secretary of State Karen Donfried during her visit to Moscow on December 15.
Prior to that, on December 9, Ryabkov said that the situation for Moscow had really worsened because of NATO’s actions. According to him, proceeding from the logic of the development of events, there is a risk of a repeat of the Cuban missile crisis.
A day earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that after admission to NATO, weapons threatening Russia could be deployed in Ukraine.
Earlier in the Western media, articles about an allegedly possible Russian invasion appeared several times. So, on November 19, The New York Times reported that the US administration had warned the allies about the alleged plans of the Russian Federation to attack the territory of Ukraine and called for new anti-Russian measures to be prepared.
In response, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stressed that the West is artificially stirring up hysteria with its statements. According to him, provocations are not ruled out, and the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance should stop “pumping up Ukraine with modern weapons.”
