The ex-president Jose Mujica assured that changes must be made after the social security reform, but he warned that he does not endorse “the earthquake of changing the Constitution”, in reference to the plebiscite promoted by the PIT-CNT,that is close to reaching the signatures to be put to the consideration of the Uruguayans in the elections 2024.

In this way, Mujica sent a clear message to the internal Broad Front, where, among the four presidential candidates, two expressed themselves against the initiative (Yamandú Orsi and Mario Bergara), while Carolina Cosse signed the ballot and Andres Lima He publicly expressed his support today through his X account.

When consulted in dialogue with Channel 5, the former president admitted his differences with the law sanctioned by the government, but called for “8 or 10 small laws to be made, touching on points,” but he strongly criticized the plebiscite by pointing out that he is not a supporter of the “earthquake of changing the Constitution.”

Mujica maintained that “the social security discussions are going to continue” and gave as an example the agricultural sector. “The agriculture that comes in the future is automatons that move in the field, it is changing. So, you have to touch it all the time due to the change in the nature of the work,” he argued.

What are the positions of the Broad Front candidates?

The PIT-CNT plebiscite did not generate support from the FA, but nevertheless the assessment is divided between the four pre-candidates. The thing is Orsi expressed his disagreement by pointing out that it does not seem logical to him to “erase the “AFAP.”

While, Bergara, who at this time is analyzing lowering his pre-candidacy, expressed himself in this regard saying that “there are no magic solutions” and asked “to go for a reform with a lot of dialogue and with political commitment”, without supporting the ballot.

Besides, cosse She was the first Broad Front representative to support the plebiscite, by signing it, even though she said that she has not decided whether she will vote for or against, but rather that she intends to enable the discussion.

Finally, Lime He expressed himself decidedly in favor today on his X account, writing: “The last effort is missing! Your signature can make the difference between deciding among all and in democracy what social security project we want.”

“Your signature can define that you or your children work until age 65 or 60. Whether you retire with more or less monthly resources. “Go ahead and sign for social security!” declared the mayor of Salto.
