The Congress of Peru hits Castillo again with a motion of no confidence from a minister

According to an account by the Peruvian newspaper El Comercio, The opposition would have enough votes to secure the departure of a new Castillo minister, who is also part of the so-called “teaching wing” of the Executive, a sector considered trusted by the president.

The spokesman for Acción Popular, Elvis Vergara, said that until last week they were not going to accompany the motion, but the investigation initiated against Lucinda Vásquez, a legislator for the ruling Peru Libre, and Ynés Gallardo Calixto, the minister’s daughter, changed the situation.

Both women are singled out for allegedly having leaked the teaching test that took place nationwide on November 13.

For the minister, the complaint is a “hoax”. “I put my hands on the fire for my daughter and I put my hands on the fire also for the congresswoman Lucinda Vásquez,” he said, quoted by the Peruvian newspaper La República.

“I do not have to resign, I do not see a reason, I do not think it is fair to assume a guilt that I do not have,” he added.

Vergara said that the Fujimori group of Popular Action will meet in the next few hours to define its position and, although he preferred not to make calculations, he asserted: “The group is going to vote en bloc, regardless of the decision taken.”

In the case of the opposition Alliance for Progress (APP), the spokesman Eduardo Salhuana, ratified that the six legislators from his bench who signed the motion, including him, are in favor of censorship.

As for the rest of the 15 members of the parliamentary group, he added that “the majority (are) also in favor” of censuring the minister.

As he said, although APP had “serious observations” on Gallardo’s management, the latest revelations about the leak of the teaching test generated a greater current in favor of censorship. In his opinion, the minister does not have a serious, professional or competent management, but rather ideologized and lacks suitability.

“We do not see initiative, proactivity, we see a minister more concerned about his union, a desire for political domination, the sector is not being considered. The subject of the test is the fullest expression of this policy. We believe that it has been deliberate because the minister and his group have always been against the evaluation of the teachers, ”he said.

In addition, he added in reference to the Government of Castillo that, “in a teacher’s management, the sector that has the fewest ideas of what to do is the Ministry of Education itself, which is paradoxical and worrying.”

Likewise, the members of the opposition group Somos Perú decided to vote in favor of censorship.

Likewise, Renovación Popular, which promoted the motion of censure, Fuerza Popular and Avanza País are inclined to vote in favor en bloc.

In the case of the ruling Peru Libre, spokesperson Silvana Robles anticipated that the intention is to vote unanimously against it. However, he did not rule out disparate positions since the bench has voted divided in recent weeks: “Of course, there will always be a different vote than the majority. It is unavoidable. The vote of conscience is appealed to ”.

When the admission to debate of the interpellation motion against Gallardo was discussed, the majority of Peru Libre voted against it. But three legislators voted in favor while one abstained.
