The pre-candidate of National Party (PN), Alvaro Delgado, rejected the plebiscite promoted by the PIT-CNT against social security reform pointing out that “if it comes out, they will repeal our system and confiscate 22,000 million dollars of our savings from citizen volunteers in the “AFAP.”
Delgado assumed that “the signatures are going to be collected,” arguing that “they have 30,000 left and I imagine that, if not, it will be a failure for the organization,” so, in reference to the inclusion of the ballot in the elections 2024, warned: “It is going to be up to us Uruguayans decide about the future”.
The former Secretary of the Presidency assured after an event in Mill Step that the eventual plebiscite “what generates is the greatest uncertainty, a black hole where no one knows what is going to happen to our savings and our retirements.”
In that sense, he stated that the Republican Coalition It provides “certainty, stability of the system and security for the collection of pensions” by maintaining the current law, enacted last year.

On the other hand, Delgado delved into the position of the National Party against the multiplicity of plebiscites, pointing out that there are some “important” ones, among which he listed the PIT-CNT. “It is too important to continue adding more things,” he warned.

Finally, he considered that another plebiscite of vital importance is that of the night raids. “We are in favor. It is giving one more instrument to the Police and Justice, especially in the issue of combating drug trafficking,” said Delgado, ratifying his position in favor of it.
