In a press conference on Monday, Lindner and the head of the child and youth welfare department (KJH) of the state of Upper Austria, Theresia Schlöglmann, presented the planned innovations. More people from close to the family should be used. This enables flexible and familiar care, says Lindner. An example: If parents are overwhelmed with raising children, the neighbor or the soccer coach helps with home exercises in the afternoon.
“Because the ultimate consequence is to take a child away from his family,” said Schlöglmann. This form of care has already been tested in the Vöcklabruck and Gmunden districts. Thanks to the positive experiences, the project will be rolled out to the districts of Linz-Land, Freistadt and Perg in the summer.
At the same time, the KJH wants to take measures at an early stage. That is why so-called “early help” will be even more important in the future; starting this year, 1.2 million euros will be invested in the project. The family receives special support from the time of pregnancy until the child is three years old.
Caring for young adults should also be simplified in the future. And: A legal basis is being created so that convicted criminals – for example for sexual abuse – are excluded from working in the KJH. What is already common in practice will now be clearly anchored in law, it was said.
