Painter, draftsman, sculptor, loner – Wolfgang Zöhrer was an institution and on an equal footing with colleagues like Manfred Deix and Gotfried Helnwein. He died much too early in 2013 and would have been 80 this year. In the Kunsthalle Aigen-Schlägl, a project close to Wolfgang Zöhrer’s heart, the 80s are celebrated with special events and newly discovered drawings by the artist. Günter “Gü” Wolkerstorfer radically shortened Hugo von Hofmannsthal’s Everyman and adapted it for Wolfgang Zöhrer. You can experience “jedermann Zöhrer” in a staged reading on May 11th in the Kunsthalle. In addition to everyone, the prostitute, a cousin, the good fellow and death, three new figures are added: growth, decadence and art. In addition to Günter Wolkerstorfer, Clemens Wolkerstorfer, Dominik Revertera and Elisabeth Mitterlehner read.
Angela Berger, Zöhrer’s long-time companion, has a real special feature: “Wolfgang Gruber has composed his own fanfare, which can be heard at the beginning of the piece.” She herself picks up the tuba.
In addition to the Everyman reading, there is also something for the eye: Berger found two supposed sketchbooks, but upon closer inspection it turned out that these were actually drawing books: “There are a total of 180 finished drawings by Wolfgang Zöhrer that have not yet been published,” says Berger happily. She also had some of his motifs printed in 3D. “His great love was printmaking, something he was always proud of – 3D is now the new form of printing.” The celebration will take place on Saturday, May 11th at 8 p.m. in the Kunsthalle in Aigen-Schlägl. Reservation requested: Tel. 0664/1702964. Another performance is scheduled for November 9th.
