“The idea is to expand the sanctions regime” valid since 2023 that imposed restrictions on the export to Iran of components used in the manufacture of drones, explained Borrell after an extraordinary meeting by videoconference of the foreign ministers of the countries of the European bloc.
The current initiative, supported by France and Germanywould be to extend these restrictions to other types of armament.
As reported Borrell, the countries of the European Union agree on the condemns the attacksthe commitment to israeli security, preventing escalation and calling for moderation of both actors, in addition to the increase in sanctions on Iran and the repudiation of Israel’s bombings on Loop.
“A spiral of attacks and counterattacks must be avoided. If the level of response increases each time, we will end up in a full-scale war. The region does not need it, the world does not need it,” said Borrell.

I chaired the extraordinary EU #FAC following the Iranian attacks against Israel.
We were united in:
– condemning the attacks
– committing to Israeli security
– preventing an escalation & calling all actors to restraint
– increasing sanctions to Iran
– not forgetting Gaza.

Iran’s attack on Israel raises tension in the Middle East
Iran launched an attack with more than 300 drones and missiles on Saturday night against Israel, which were almost entirely intercepted with the help of the United States and other allied countries, according to Israeli authorities.
The Iranian authorities presented that attack as a response to the bombing, which they blamed on Israel, of their consulate in Damascuson April 1, in which seven Revolutionary Guards died, two of them with the rank of general of that ideological militia of the Islamic Republic.
Israel defended itself over the bombing of the Iranian consulate
In this regard, the Government of Israel spoke this Monday for the first time about the dead in the stroke against the consulate of Iran and stated that were involved in “terrorism against Israel” activities. These are the first official statements about the attack that occurred on April 1, which triggered the current crisis.
The spokesman for the Israeli army, Daniel Hagari, assured that “those who died in Damascus were members of the “Quds Force” and stated: “They were people involved in terrorism against the State of Israel”.
After the bombing, Iran demanded that the international community impose sanctions on the government of Israel. However, the lack of response led to the pre-announced attack on the territory of the Israeli state.
