The global association “Last Help” has set itself the goal of removing taboos from death, accepting it as part of life and dealing with it in the knowledge that we are all finite.
Margret Krebelder offers “last aid” courses in Upper Austria with an experienced, trained colleague. “My motivation is, on the one hand, my experience of how helpless many people are when dealing with the topic of death and grief, and, on the other hand, concern about our demographic development,” says the project manager for “Last Aid” at the Upper Austria Hospice Association.
“Because the nursing shortage will become significantly worse in the next few years, meaning that human and financial resources will become more scarce, we as the civilian population will be asked more than ever to be there for the dying and their relatives. In order to prepare people for this, we must continue we offer these courses,” says Krebelder.
Adult courses have already become very well established in Upper Austria. The focus is also on boys: “Our offer is aimed at schools that can offer a ‘last aid’ course in ethics and religious education or in projects.” There would also soon be a “last aid” course for professional staff; This format is still in the pilot project phase.
