Children have always been an important target group in the Celtic village. This year it will also be the center of a newly designed special exhibition, reveals historian Elisabeth Leitner, who with her team wants to make the open-air museum a place of extraordinary family experiences again: “Our special exhibition deals with the 14 richly furnished children’s graves.” From the opening weekend on the 20th/21st. From April to a children’s Halloween party, the season is full of hands-on programs for families.
At the start of the season, in addition to prehistoric games and craft techniques, tours of the new exhibition will also be offered this weekend: on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
The Keltendorf team has also planned a lot for the coming weeks to surprise visitors: at the beginning of May, for example. B. during the “Days of the Iron Age”, when historical craft techniques and the life of the people in Machland 2,700 years ago become the focus of “village life”.
There are several highlights scheduled for June. On Sunday, June 2nd, young and old can compete in the Celtic strength games. On this day there will also be the first opportunity to make the Celtic war trumpet “Karnyx” under the guidance of a music archaeologist. For Father’s Day (June 9th), Christian Fostel will offer two half-day parent-child courses under the motto “Day of Fire”.
On the solstice weekend (June 22nd/23rd), families can immerse themselves in the secrets of the Celtic era together with “Living History” actors. On June 22nd, the open-air museum will be open until 9 p.m.
In September, the end of the holidays is celebrated with games from the Iron Age to the 21st century. Just one week later, the historical fashion show by the Celtic scientist Helga Rösel-Mautendorfer celebrated its premiere. At the end of the season, the Celtic village says goodbye with a Halloween special: On Saturday, October 26th, the Celtic “Samhain” will be celebrated in the Herrinnenhalle with a special children’s program.
