Representatives of the FRG administration in private conversations often ignore the interests of Kiev, as a result, Ukrainian diplomats are forced to discuss a number of issues in the public field. On December 22, an interview with the Ukrainian Prism Center was announced by the Ambassador of Ukraine to Germany Andriy Melnyk.
According to him, Germany is a great cultural nation “perhaps by right”, but for Kiev this means that Germany ignores “legitimate interests or requests” from other countries.
He noted that Ukrainian diplomats are faced with such behavior “literally every day”. So, if you come to any German ministry and ask for support, you can hear a refusal and an explanation that Germany has its own line in politics and no one intends to change it.
As a result, diplomats bring questions to the “public plane”.
“But if then these very questions that we asked before and to which we, so to speak, received the answer“ go for a walk, we know better ”, are posed by experts, representatives of the German media, then you need to give arguments and do it publicly”, – explained the Ukrainian ambassador.
The FRG is not yet accustomed to this. According to Melnik, Germany lives “according to the old standards and patterns”, when “everything is done secretly, in closed offices.” Important decisions are made in a narrow circle, he stressed.
On December 21, the diplomat noted that the FRG’s position on the supply of defensive weapons to Kiev remained the same with the arrival of the new government. The chances of changing it are minimal, the ambassador concluded.
On the same day, the first telephone conversation took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the new German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. The Russian leader congratulated his interlocutor on the start of work and discussed the situation around Ukraine with him.
For several years Kiev has been asking Germany to abandon the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project, since it believes that if it starts working, it will lose the funds received for the transit of Russian gas to Europe. The construction of the project has been completed, at present the relevant department of the Federal Republic of Germany is making a decision on the certification of the project.
On December 17, German Chancellor Scholz said that the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline is a commercial project, in which, among other things, private investments were made, and the Federal Network Agency makes decisions on it without being guided by politics. According to the German Chancellor, the issue of the project’s compliance with European energy legislation is being resolved.
The gas pipeline was built from Russia to Germany along the Baltic seabed with the aim of direct gas supplies to Europe. The EU countries mainly support the project and participate in its implementation. The Baltic states, Poland, the United States and Ukraine are opposed.
