The Chamber of Labor has created a housing satisfaction index that shows needs and concerns about housing. People were surveyed throughout Upper Austria. In the Gmunden and Vöcklabruck districts, eight out of ten respondents said it was becoming increasingly difficult for them to find a financially suitable rental apartment. This makes the two districts the negative leaders in Upper Austria. 58 percent of those surveyed in the Gmunden and Vöcklabruck districts rated the availability of subsidized housing in their community as “critical” or “poor”. A year ago the value was 55 percent.
Those responsible in the region consider the high number of secondary residences and the associated price increases to be one of the causes. The AK is calling for an expansion of subsidized non-profit housing, more housing subsidies and also more subsidized housing loans. “The federal government’s rent cap is half-hearted and was introduced far too late,” says AK President Andreas Stangl.
