The first victims were discovered on December 10. Over the past week, six victims turned to doctors due to alcohol poisoning in the city of Ordu in the north of the country. Two patients died.
The largest number of deaths was recorded in Istanbul. Over the past 10 days, 30 people have died there.
Security officials continue checks due to the distribution of counterfeit alcohol, five suspects have been detained.

According to the specialist, the symptoms of poisoning with a surrogate drink differ from typical alcohol poisoning. In case of poisoning with fake alcohol, nausea and vomiting occur, and with further use, abdominal pain, loose stools, cold sticky sweat, clouding of consciousness, a veil in front of the eyes, lethargy.
The doctor explained that surrogate alcohol includes tinctures of medicinal plants, as well as brake fluids, antifreezes or glass cleaners, which are the most dangerous.
