The World Bank highlighted Uruguay as a testimony of innovation in sustainability

After meeting with Minister Azucena Arbeleche, the organization stated that the government’s actions in this matter “become a global public good.”

The president of World Bank, Carlos Felipe Jaramillo, highlighted Uruguay as an example country in green economy and sustainability, after holding a meeting with the Minister of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche.

Jaramillo highlighted milestones such as livestock traceability and the loans linked to sustainability as part of the government’s renewable energy strategy, which also includes the Bond Indexed to Climate Indicators(BIIC) to 2034.

The World Bank representative held a meeting with Arbeleche and the economic team, after which he used his account on the social network Uruguay is a testimony of innovation and solutions that transcend borders and become a global public good.

This recognition is correlated with the government’s progress in the matter, which ranges from the aforementioned milestones such as the sustainable loan and the green bond, but also the renewable matrix, since in the last 12 months 97.9% of the electricity with clean energies.

Added to this is the intention to consolidate itself as an exporting country of green hydrogen, for which the memorandum of understanding signed with HIF Global, which contemplates an investment of 6,000 million dollars, the largest in the history of the country.

The recognition from the World Bank adds to the recent support that the country obtained from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), organization that ratified its support to consolidate itself as a regional leader in sustainable development.

This is what the president of the international organization said, Ilan Goldfajn, after holding a meeting with Arbeleche to “deepen joint work aimed at the development of the country.”

In this area, Goldfajn highlighted the IDB’s commitment so that the government “benefits from the new instrument IDB Climate”, as well as “technical support to continue positioning the Uruguay as a key player in innovation and digitalization.”
