With the official coronation of the new daffodil sovereigns, the largest flower festival in Austria – the 64th Daffodil Festival – will be ceremoniously opened in Bad Aussee on May 30th. In the Kur- & Congresshaus, the reigning Queen Michaela Ertlschweiger, together with her princesses Sophia Hellwig and Celin Pichler, will pass on the daffodil crowns to their successors.

Audience will decide

What’s special this year: The audience decides who will actually be crowned queen. “We also wanted to give the Ausseers a say. “In addition, it remains exciting until the end to see who will win the race,” says Rudolf Grill, chairman of the Narzissenfestverein. “But no matter what the decision is: each of the three women will emerge as a winner that evening.”

The application is open until Sunday, April 28th. The candidates will then be invited to the casting on May 4th at Grundlsee to answer questions from a jury. What is the best way to prepare for this? “The most important thing is: don’t pretend, but stay true to yourself,” says Sophia Hellwig from Gmunden, who successfully took part in the casting last year. “Questions are also asked about Ausseerland. “Be a little quick-witted and have fun, then nothing can go wrong,” is the Narcissus Princess’ advice. “The most beautiful thing is the daffodil festival itself.” This year it will take place from May 30th to June 2nd in the municipality of Grundlsee.
