According to official figures, the number of infections represents the highest number since November 20, 2020.
The numbers are known hours after Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced that tomorrow the Government could decide new measures to stop the spread of the Omicron variant of coronavirus, among which “the request for tests for mass events is not excluded.”
“The arrival of the Omicron variant opened a new phase in the pandemic. Tomorrow we will decide what to do based on the epidemiological picture. We must defend the normality achieved, and that means no closures, presence in schools and satisfactory sociability,” he added Draghi at a press conference.
For Draghi, “vaccines are still the best defense against the virus”, so he called on citizens to take the third dose of vaccine, while not ruling out “the extension of the obligation to get vaccinated” that already applies to some categories of workers.
