Following the state’s funding commitment, construction work has already begun: the friendship bridge over the Ager, which connects Regau and Vöcklabruck, is being rebuilt. The old wooden bridge had to be closed unexpectedly in the fall due to structural problems. It will be demolished by June and replaced by a new structure by July.
The new, 22 meter long bridge will be made from composite materials. LED-illuminated handrails give it a modern appearance and optimal lighting. The bridge is an important link for walking and cycling between the two communities.
The total costs of 225,000 euros, minus the funding, will be divided between Regau and Vöcklabruck. Both the state’s transport department and the climate and energy fund support the new construction.
“My colleague Peter Harringer and I are already looking forward to the inauguration,” says Vöcklabruck’s mayor Peter Schobesberger. “We are getting a modern bridge that will connect our two communities for decades to come.
